View Full Version : My bite free streak is at an end...
Well, it's over. Years of being cautious and succesfully avoiding big bad boid teeth are seemingly in vain!
Tonight, as I was feeding my male IJ, I dumbly put my hand smelling of mice in his cage. I look back now, and see no sense or reason to my actions. Anyway, thinking I was nummers, he bit my middle finger. After bleeding profusely for what seemed like hours, I discovered he got in at least 7 top teeth and 7 bottom teeth on and under my finger.
Fortunately, thanks to razor sharp teeth, it hurt very little and allowed my first concern to be the state of his mouth, as in did he break any teeth. Considering the wounds look clean and he happily accepted and swallowed another rat, I think he did not.
*sigh*.
It's the end, folks, the end!
I've been cursed.
:D

I would rather be bitten by my snakes any day over my parrot Diablo, even by my full grown Amazon Tree Boa. Sure my snakes can break the skin and cause bruising....but Diablo takes out CHUNKS....:medopen:

LMAO ya a buddy of mine, his bird took a chunk out of his dads ear, unfortunately this pissed of his dad and ended up flying across the room, without using his wings lol, needless to say I am sure it hurt
It is always just a matter of time before you get tagged, I always thought the longer I went without getting bit the sooner my number was coming up. I totally agree a snake bite is not as bad as a bird bite...they try to take the finger right off.

LOL Jake... I've been bit several times by my leos, and I can't say as how it's anything to be scared about ;) No blood, no punctures, doesn't even hurt that much... more like a pinch than anything else...
Zoe -- welcome to the tagged club ;) Which I have yet to join, although I don't imagine that it'll be long after I get my GTP that I do... I believe that Chris' words were something along the lines of "my girlfriend calls him Doc because he's drawn more blood from me than a doctor would ever think of doing... " Hehe... very reassuring, eh?

lol, ya, Jake, I have to agree with clownfishie, although I hope you were joking. lol. I've been bitten a couple times by juvies and adults leos and it's not all that bad. Much better than being bitten by a bearded dragons. lol. but I think it is the strike that is the most scary of the hole thing! That panic reaction that makes you pull back and scare the crap out of the herp. :(

A bite from your ball python will barely break your skin, so will it really count?

lolol, sorry to here it Zoe, I almost got bit before by my male ball python, i dont care how small he is(3 1/2ft), i still dont wanna get bit, when he was feeding on live before i was able to convert him to frozen, the mice would be pinned and i could swear he knocked them out a few times by his strike. hes one strong little dude:)

Way too much fuss about being hit by a snake. If it's not a hot or a cross town bus, I generally don't worry too much. I've stopped counting.
Stupid Feeding Error? hehehe
If you think it's too much fuss, Gary, don't post a reply. I simply wanted to tell about my first bite experience, as do others. Don't be a poor sport and ruin our fun just because you've been bitten more times for whatever reasons and are used to it.

monitor bites are way worse than any bird bite........ I was bitten by a 5 foot varanus albigularis...... It shattered the 2nd joint in my pionter finger........ Half of my finger was almost off my hand..... This is mainly why I do not keep varanids anymore...... I would rather take my chances with hot snakes....:D LOL

varanides are bad but get hit bye a crocodilian and you will be buying varaninds bye the buckets full at least snakes dont roll off any body parts.heheheheh

LOL! There you go Zoe, you're one of "us" now. ;)
Any pics of the wound?
I was bit by my veiled chameleon does that count? lol
My tree python has terrible aim so I dreed the day he gets my hand. I agree with Lisa a ball python bite barely breaks the skin.
Wait til you get tagged by a six foot Emerald tree boa! Now that's a bite that won't stop bleeding for awhile. Also ain't too fun pulling those fangs out of your flesh:) but I do agree, a large Monitor is worst! Don't want to even think of Croc's bite:)
You finally get your first snake kiss!! Well come to the club!!!;)

Eek! Yeah I can honestly say I'll take a snake bite over a parrot any day! Those buggers go right to the bone (some can even snap your finger right off  ). Big birds make me nervous, you can avoid reptile bites usually with careful handling, not birds though

I wasn't meaning to offend, but I can see how I came across a jerk. My appologies.
My statement was meant generally. Lots of people, including keepers far more experienced than myself make a big deal about it. I have even had a person ask me if they could use one of my more agressive animals to film them getting hit. It's happened to me enough times I don't even worry about it any more. That was all I meant.
Now that you've been iniated, your ready for the wonderful world of wildcaughts and amazons.
Cheers

Welcome to the club i've been bit by many garters lmao suprised they have lasted this long in the wild with there bite. I've been bit by a texas rat my bp(my mistake). and twice by my 4ft boa once on the neck the second on the lips one after another lmao it was really cool and suprisingly it didn't hurt at all.
