so my local petco has 3 baby red tail boas and one is very pink. its beautiful i think. i am told after it sheds its much more red than pink and a guy who has 20 years experience with snakes said he thinks it is a blood boa. i've done dome research and i could see that being the case. i also read they only get up to like 7ft is that true? also i know that pet store prices are stupid high, and that can be said about the ball pythons and corn snakes at this store, but the red tails are priced at $170 and i have $20 worth of coupons so it would be $150 plus tax. is that fair? i really like the way this snake looks! dont know the gender yet getting it probed tomorrow.

Here's a little piece on blood boas.
Just by looking at a boa, you may say " there is blood boa in it" but without lineage the purity is questionable.
The First Blood Boas originated from a RED Boa that was found in El Salvador and owned by Ron St. Pierre. The Boa was line bred and was proven to be a genetic recessive trait. These boas like most Central American boas are true Dwarves. The Blood Boas max out at around 5 feet and have been bred at around 4 feet in length. They are very unique in head structure also. The Head is blunt and the eyes are dark. As youngsters they are literally Blood Red -- As Adults they tend to get darker burnt orange but still exhibit that blood red back ground color. This Trait is beautiful with out adding any of the genes on the market today. However, the sky is the limit with this trait & it most likely will boost the price of the stock of any other trait it is added to.

honestly i would rather it turn out to be a normal BCC that just has beautiful coloration. i am looking to venture into the world of bigger snakes and if a blood boa is only going to reach 7ft, i would rather get the brazilian rainbow they have for $130

it is the same size as the 2 normal looking ones they have with it. there used to be 4 or 5 i think... gives me the impression they were all from the same clutch...
This is no guarantee, but if it's being sold at Petco, I'd say it's almost certainly not a bcc. It's most likely a bci, or common boa. Keep in mind that even bci generally have a red tail when young. This may not be the case at your Petco, I just don't want to see anyone get ripped off.
Any way you could take pictures of the snakes and post them? Might help.
