But softly. Is my advice to my daughter on handling the Cal King. The King is so sweet, but daughter is kinda scared to just go in for the grab. I find the grab is the best as they don't see you as food, nor do they think you're going to harm them.

Grab meaning you find her borrowed in the Aspen and softly and nicely take her out of the enclosure and let her crawl around though your hands or whatever.

I do the same with my Garter. He is real flighty and fast and loves to musk, but he's a cool cat.

My king makes it easy. Lift up cardboard tube, pour snake into hand. He was really mad the first time I did that but has resigned himself to it now that he knows what's up.

...well, unless he doesn't want to, then it's a game of gravity vs the snake, and I end up with a handful of snake butt going "Come oooonnn, buddy."

(The garter is half luck, half prayer, and half musk, and yes I realize the 'math' is off there but IF YOU HAVE A GARTER YOU UNDERSTAND)

I've noticed this with all of my snakes as well. They get nervous or irritated if I take my time getting them out, so I just let them know I'm there and pick them up. Usually the garter is nice getting him out, but sometimes he likes to play tag where I'm inevitably always "it."
