Hey everyone,
For wondering minds, I have been keeping for about 4 months. My husband has been keeping for about 16 years. We have a coastal carpet python, 2 reticulated pythons, a rock python, two jungle carpet pythons, a goofy little corn snake, a very active ball python that thinks she's a tree snake, and some kind of a red tail boa. I was actually hoping to get in touch with someone who has a lot of boa knowledge and experience. I'd love to be able to identify what, exactly, he is. He was sold as a "common boa", but he is at least a Columbian red tail. He completed about 98% of a shed today, and he has beautiful high pinks on the side that looks like pink marble or granite. My camera really washed his colors out, but you can see just a little bit.

Nice looking boa :), without known lineage it will never by anything other than a boa constrictor. It looks like it has some Colombian blood in it, but it is not a Colombian because of that.

Yeah hard to tell without papers. So it's just a boa constrictor, maybe a Colombian-type. Very pretty regardless! Love the saddles with varying thickness, and the nice little sharp peaks. A great addition. :)

If he was sold as a "common boa" then he's probably a BCI, while a true red tail is a BCC. Many BCI's, however, are incorrectly sold as "red tails". On top of that, the pet trade gene pool is quite mixed.
A scale count could possibly give you more information about your snake, but I'm betting that you do have a good looking common boa or a mix.

I'm by no means an expert but that doesn't look like a strict bci to me. He's got really nice tail markings and peaks in the saddles.

He is the sweetest little guy. I had to help him with his shed, and didn't even fidget when I was picking around his face. The store we got him from was a terrible, dirty, cold snake store that tried to sell us a kinked yellow head retic. I'm glad we got this guy out of there, and he's quickly becoming one of my favorites. We had a Skype session with a boa breeder in NC and she said he has genetic traits of Colombian in him. Either way, he's my mutt and I love him!

Those don't determine BCC vs BCI. Many baby BCI have bright red tails, mine did, now it's more of a mahogany. BCI can have peaks, and BCC can have saddles. Personally it looks very very much BCI to me, I don't really see any BCC, but as has been stated there's no telling for sure without knowing its lineage. The tail isn't nearly as red as you'd expect in a BCC, as well.

I'll get better pictures. The flash on my camera really washes his colors out.
