I have a 40 gallon for my Dumerils Boa, with a UTH that's reaching temperatures up to 115 degrees at floor surface and the tank itself is only staying at roughly 68 degrees and the cold side is down to 63 degrees. I know even if I put a thermostat on the UTH its going to continuously run to try to maintain tank air temp. But I am concerned that if I put a basking light it will cycle the UTH off which will cause a cold floor temp and dry humidity due to screen top cage. I just got this set up started yesterday, so Im just trying to get the kinks worked out and get opinions of what you guys think would work best.

Thanks in advance!

Wrap your screen top with tinfoil to keep heat and humidity in, cutting a spot for your heat lamp. The UTH is for belly heat, not for ambient temps, use a heat lamp or a ceramic heat emitter for ambient temps, and everything should be hooked up to thermostats to keep them from overheating.

I just ordered some stuff for other cages and also bought a heat lamp for the cage and a thermostat control for the heat pad and a thermostat for the heat lamp. The only other question I have is how hot should you allow a UTH to get get for a Dumeril before you have to be concerned about burns, anywhere from 85-90? Because I know you ambient should be no higher than 85 if I am correct.
