I used mite-off! a Zoomed product and I replaced the substrate and used the mite-off on my Blue tongue skink for a half hour. I wiped the mites off of him let him soak in rather higher than average warm water. He closed his eyes and looked relieved. I used the mite-off! on all his hides and the wood cage itself. His neighbors were very nosy watching me the whole time! He was very content climbing all over his clean cage. http://s284.photobucket.com/user/JCTRock/media/temporary_zps2264ee27.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2http://s284.photobucket.com/user/JCTRock/media/temporary_zps4e43c9b0.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 (http://s284.photobucket.com/user/JCTRock/media/temporary_zps2264ee27.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2http://s284.photobucket.com/user/JCTRock/media/temporary_zps4e43c9b0.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1)

I soaked all cage furnishings in very hot water in a rubber-maid tub for over an hour, all furnishings were submerged. The hot water was sure to kill the mites. I was told to use a 150 watt bulb instead of my original 100 watt bulb to cook any remaining mites. The mite-off! was sprayed on my substrate and tank walls and floor.

Hot water has not necessarily killed all the eggs, and i would consider the likeliness your skinks neighbors are also infected. Not trying to scare you, but mites are really good in 'suddenly reappearing'

I read a couple articles about that. I read to keep an eye on your reptiles weeks after the last mite problem. That is what I will do. Thank you Tsubaki.

All Boas - Mites & My Mite Death Program (http://www.allboas.com/mites.php) this article is a good one. Soapy water tub is what this keeper practices.

That is the way i clean mites off new animals, for my existing tubs i would release predatory mites if i suspect anything. :) They work like a dream, if you look into your tub at night you can see the mites running for their lives. I haven't had a mite infestation in many years though.

If you want to kill the mites completely, just go buy a bottle 99% isopropyl alcohol. Either put the alcohol in a spray bottle mist everything or just let the alcohol soak on everything. Best universal cleaner for literally everything. Nothing can survive in that kind of environment and it is just under a dollar to do all of this. This method is not do be used on animals for obvious reasons.

Update, mites do not exist on my skink's body. He was further examined and given hot running water bathing to kill the last of them two nights ago. I was checking him out today and he is super clean. Thank you Zoomed and everyone else who gave me tips.

glad to hear the problem is resolved! :)

pesky little no good parasites mites are, I've never had them on any of my reps but my 30 house plants, whew! I've had my fair share of troubles with spider mites, I don't clearly understand where the buggers even come from, sometimes its as if they spawn from the air, plant or dirt but I use the 99% isopropyl alcohol method as well for my plants that is.

I've worked with a lot cannabis plants in the past, And the best way to take care of spider mites on plants is Neem oil, It is natural and it is the most effective treatment and does not harm the plant in any way. You should not be using Rubbing alcohol on your house plants just sayin lol
