View Full Version : Do you pet your Colubrid?
My Cal King really likes it. She will move throughout my finger web while handling and when she gets bored will just stop and not move. I will pet her, basically stroking her with my fingernail and she loves it a little more rough that a standard hold. Not trying to get away or scared and she comes back to the same finger wanting a good rub. She doesn't let me rub/scratch the head just yet, but I will soon.

You should pet a reptile or amphibian like a dog. Handle it and let it glide through your fingers or rest on your shoulders and neck. Reptiles like our bodies because they are getting a benefit: becoming warmer. We do possess blood that is quite warm.

My MBK Noodle humors my stroking.
Dart doesn't even want to be LOOKED at yet, never mind touched, so...we're not there yet. ;) Someday, I hope.

Both of my colubrids don't mind the petting. They seem to chill down a lot when I do.

What I meant is you shouldn't pet a reptile like a dog.

I certainly don't pet them like a dog...but Noodle doesn't seem to mind brief stroking motions now and again. I chose the word 'humors' carefully. :)
