View Full Version : What's next on your list? If even out of your comfront zone.
I'm a Colubrid guy for the most part. But Pets Mart had a couple Ball's on sale for $45ish tonight. Took everything I had not to get one, but I didn't. I prefer to buy from breeders and knowing the stock. Anyway....What is on you list? I'm not a big Morph guy, and prefer "natural" colors, though there are some great Morphs of all species now. And they are beautiful.
But I digress, and sorry for rambling. So what is on your list?
This is my list in no particular order.
Hognose
Boa (smaller breed and good temperament)
Python (smaller breed and good temperament)
Other Colubrids.
There are others but wondering what your list is so I can add to mine. :D

Other than my daughter's two corn snakes, my indigo is the only snake I have at the moment. But next up, I'd like to get a pair of amazon tree boas. Also interested in carpet pythons.

If I ever decided to move to the dark side of Boa or Pythons, it would be either BRB or Carpet Pythons. I am much more likely to stick with some of the less common exotic colubrids though (if I ever get more snakes).

-Common snapping turtle (been looking on CL for people wanting to get rid of their captives) always open to another rescue though if we find one injured. I am undecided if I would actually keep a hatchling if we are blessed enough to stumble upon one (or a few). I have a 400 or so gallon indoor pond that I need to get finished up first though.
-Red tail Boa, the local reptile rescue has several up for adoption, but might be another 6 months to a year before we are ready to house one because I just don't have an enclosure large enough at the moment.
-Tarantula, still researching hardy, docile species that can be handled. Have several empty 10-20 gal. tanks ready!
-Anoles, when I get the extra 55 gal. cleaned up and get a nice natural live plant environment established in there!

Cornsnake or ratsnake. I have too many boids! Time to add some diversity into the collection with some interesting colubrids.

I'm thinking about getting a hypo everglades rat snake. Other options are an MBK, a hognose or a bull snake.

Okeetee or hypomel corn, depending on what I find at the Hamburg show next weekend. Always did love the okeetee colors the most.
-Common snapping turtle (been looking on CL for people wanting to get rid of their captives)
Surprisingly I've caught 2 the past 2 years. I pictured and released. I had to stop traffic to get the smaller one. Not highway traffic, but not a country road either. He's living in a good size pond now.

My list is ridiculously long, but I think next up is to expand my work with subocs. I'd love to get into albinos and axanthic normals. But then the call of Pituophis has been getting louder lately...

We ran across a ~2.5" baby lying upside down in the grass in the back yard some years ago. Miles away from the nearest creek or pond, never did figure out how it got there, best guess was a bird dropped it? I thought it was a plastic toy until I picked it up. we took the see snapper down to the canal and released it in a suitable spot.

I've got sooo many animals on my list!
BCI
Bull snake
Black Milk Snake
Brooks King snake
Amazon Tree Boa
Jungle Carpet Python
Burmese/reticulate python
Tegu(not sure on species)
Blue Tongue Skink
Ackie Monitor
Gray Tree frog
There's more on my list but these are what I would like the most

-Western Hognose (if I decide to deal with the DNR crap to have one in the state of Illinois)
-Colombian Rainbow Boa
-Dumerils
Those are all ones I've been considering. Most likely, however, are the following:
-Puget Sound Garter
-Red Sided Garter
-Chicago Garter
-Banana King (are these just a high yellow variant of Coastal? I can't tell)
I know those are all "more of the same" of what I have already, but I love my two.

Not to bust your chops, but holding a snapper by its tail can do permanent damage. It's awesome that you stopped to help em though. In the future if you use one hand to grab the shell above the tail, and place the other hand on the lower carapace(bottom shell), you won't get bit and won't risk damage to the animal.

Also didnt know that, thanks for the info
No problem. I did it like that myself for a long time. It's tough to not keep your hands as far away from that mouth as possible lol. Just remember, don't hold a common snapper the way you see people holding an alligator snapper. You know, one hand holding the shell above the tail, and the other holding the shell above the head. This works for gators, cause the necks are short and don't suck all the way into the shell. Commons have much longer necks and can pull their heads much further back. I had to pry a common off a woman's fingers who caught one fishing and decided to pick it up the way she saw on TV. She won't make that mistake again, I promise. Ouch!
