View Full Version : White inside nostrils? What is it.

Hey, so this morning I looked at my savannah monitor and the inside of his nose is completely white. He is just finishing a shed so do you think it could be stuck shed? He hasn't fully finished sheddin on his face yet aswell. I then noticed what looked like it could have been funny poop so that got me worried. Any Ideas?

My old beardie would shed the skin inside of her nostrils. It should disappear once he's done shedding. Let us know!

It could be shed, could also be salt though. Nasal salt excretion isn't uncommon in lizards.

i know that snake mites poop is a white/silverish colour,also snake mites tend to favor the nostrils and eys,because its harder for the snake to drown the mites while soaking in it's water bowl

it was the first thing i thought of when i read your thread title,i may be way off mate

i don't know iof snake mites would survive on a lizard

Hi, there is no such thing as a "snake mite", the mites can infect lizards just the same (it`s a common misconception that they are specific types that only infect snakes). ;)

Hi, can you crop the photo to zoom in to the nostril? I have a feeling it may just be the normal colour inside which is quite pale, alternatively it could be unshed skin.
I`m not sure that V. exanthematicus has salt secreting glands as do some other Varanid species.
