Trouble feeding baby western hogs.

I have four baby western hognoses and I can't get them eating. I was told frogs but can't find frogs small enough. One of them ate frozen one time.

I have tried:

-live
-frozen thawed
-frozen thawed and brained
- both live and frozen scented with frogs

Anyone with experience, any tips would be much appreciated!

Also, they are living separated in a small shoebox rack.

I've heard of canned tuna to scent prey items being used with success, and unsalted chicken broth.

Do the pet stores near you not have small African clawed frogs? They're in abundance in the pet stores around here.

Thanks! I'll definitely try the tuna, and if that doesn't work I'll try the chicken broth.

As for the clawed frogs I guess I didn't think of them. I used to carry them but haven't had them in a while. I should be able to get them.

Ah, had similar problems with all if mine. Very distressing, to say the least. Tried the tuna water, scenting with a toad, braining the pinkies, etc. While I have no doubts these techniques are successful for some, for me they were not. What finally worked was placing them in a paper lunch bag with the pinky and then leaving them for an hour or two. Best of luck to you!

I have raised dozens per the years never had one that would not feed on ft pinkies some I had to put in deli cups overnite some had to wait untill the spring but they all started fine

What temperatures are you keeping them at?

I had a good friend who bred them and I bought some of his babies. They did tremendously well on temps that were a bit higher than most people suggest. His babies would rarely need scenting.

If you do need scenting ask a pet store if they ever have any green tree frogs die to freeze it for you and keep it.
