It's been years since I've kept snakes. Had a red tail boa back in college (30+ years ago) and collected/kept some local colubrids as well. Garter snakes, black rat snake, black racer, even a couple of Northern water snakes for a few months. Tried a baby corn snake some years later, it managed to escape from a 20 gallon tank with a clipped down screen top and was never seen again. A couple months ago I started researching snakes with a new pet in mind, quite a difference with the internet than back in the day. I finally decided on the Dominican Red Mountain Boa, a bit smaller adult size than the red tail and great colors when they're grown. Also easier to maintain than Brazilian rainbows, though I was rather leaning toward those for a while. Just received a pair of yearlings last week, very happy with their dispositions and looking forward to watching them grow. Now I'm debating over another pair of yearlings from a different breeder to mix the bloodlines when they mature.

First 3 are the female shortly after I unpacked the box.

Male with a day-old quail chick. He likes to lurk in the silk ivy, so I left the chick on the foam when I turned off the lights, then checked back about 30 minutes later. Female apparently wasn't as hungry, ignored hers. Both showing a bit more red since they're settling in.
