View Full Version : Help please. Burn on black throat
I got a beautiful black throat via Facebook earlier but he has a nasty healing I believe thermal burn on the bottom of his tail. He will be going to the vet for a check up this week but in the mean time I require some help with treating this.. I've never had to deal with a burn on a monitor before.. And this one looks pretty bad albeit healing. I'm unsure how it happened or when as I just got him and am very concerned.

Silvadene cream (silver sulfadiazine) is supposed to work well on injuries like this.

I just wanna say that looks a lot like the tail rot that my iguana had, don't take what I say as a diagnoses though because I'm really not sure. Your vet would be better able to tell you though. I would second the silver sulfadiazine though, they use it for burns and it was also given to us for the tail rot that my iguana had.

Tell us about your set up. I don't know much about monitors but a lot of people on this site do. It would help them to understand the problem if you provide as much information as possible. Pictures would be helpful as well.
Thank you! I will be trying this, my vet is uncomfortable with monitors so I'm finding another vet, she said she'd find one whod be better able to care for him and be back in touch in a day or so. His set up currently is 10ftx4.5ftx4.5ft solid wood and plexi enclosure they belonged to one of my bug burms previously while his bedroom is being finished up. He was 2 feet of dirt inside, 135 bask spot, a large tub for soaking ( he gets baths daily as well in the actual bath tub, he loves them.) overall ambient is upper 80s ranging between 85-89.
I cannot say what his..previous owners enclosure was like, but I do consider him rescued from it and know it was not proper. .
