We went to our local safari park today and they usually have either a snake or Lizard or spider out that can be handled. Today they had this beautiful six year old girl.

Very nice! It's been a long time since I've seen a scorpion in person. I wish to keep a few in the future.

They have been in my future plans for a while but after meeting one in real life my mind is totally focused on getting a nice setup sorted for a pair to live in. Hopefully by this time next year I will have them.

I'm with ya buddy. Not my cup of tea- I looked into breeding them to feed my lizard once... but that's as far as I got.

I got my first scorpion for my 7th birthday. Awesome animals. Get some Rob, you'll be glad you did. I haven't had any for atleast 10 years now and have also been putting it off but I think ill get some aswell.
What species are you thinking of getting Rob?

Am aiming for Emperors like the one in the picture, have heard that they are relatively easy to look after and should the worst happen the sting isn't too toxic!
What a lovely girl! Scorpions are so neat.

I don't think I could do it, haha. They're cool to look at but I wouldn't hold one :p

Emperor scorpions would be the way to go for first scorps! I got my first scorpion 6 years ago. Before that, I was terrified of them. I didn't even like looking at them in pet stores. I was in Petco one day with my fiancé to get crickets, and the guy had an Emperor scorpion out handling it. I asked him if he was afraid of getting stung and he explained that this species is relatively docile and the venom is very mild. My fiancé dared me to hold it, and the employee encouraged me. I was so scared, but I reached out my hand, and the scorpion crawled onto me. He just sat there on my hand and scuttled up my arm a bit...it was so cool!
I ended up buying that scorpion and owned him for 3 years. Sadly, he died during a molt. I hadn't noticed the signs and fed him. When he molted, the crickets killed him. :-(
I've also owned a pair of yellow-banded flat rock scorpions, which were really neat but somewhat aggressive. I'd like to get another emperor scorpion in the near future!
