So, these can get pretty funny, and I love to hear other people's experiences, because they're... funny. xD
I wasn't always into snakes. In fact, like a lot of other people, I used to be petrified of them. Out of fascination, I started watching SnakeBytes on YouTube, and that show really helped me to understand them better. A year later, with the support of my boyfriend, I got my first corn snake! (Fluffy)
But, when I was a little kid we had a visitor crawl into our house. At the time, I was deathly afraid of snakes, and so was my mother. At the time, a juvenile black racer had made its way beneath the washer and dryer, and at the time, I only heard my mother scream. Apparently, it had been sitting right outside of the back door, and when she opened it, the snake quickly bolted inside for the nearest hiding spot.
It was just mom and myself, living alone at the time. I asked her what was wrong, and when she told me a snake had gotten into the house, that was a big, "NOPE!"
I was an awful kid. I shut the door to the laundry room, and stuffed the cracks beneath the door with towels. She had to fish out the snake from underneath the appliances with a broom, and I was sitting on top of the table, with my knees tucked up so it couldn't get me, lol.
The snake eventually got out. I think it took about an hour altogether.
So, does anyone else have any funny stories about either themselves or any friends who were at one time, scared of snakes?

Can't say I have ever been scared of snakes, I've always liked them. However one time when I was about 11 I went to south korea for vacation and in the country side we came across a pitviper of some sort side winding across the road we were traveling on.

Growing up, my father was always having night terrors involving snakes, the funniest was on a camping trip with my best friend. Imagine it's 2am storming like hell, we had started the night in our tent but had to move into the camper with my folks because my parents had forgotten to waterproof my tent. All of a sudden my father starts screaming "there's a snake in the bed, Melinda (my mom), get up! Move hurry there's a snake in the bed!" Now my mother and have been through this countless times, its a night terror stemming from a childhood trauma where he did in fact have a snake under his bed and his parents did not believe him (it apparently was a large rattlesnake), we burst into laughter. My best friend however did not know it was a night terror, she practically **** herself trying to get out of the camper and into the pouring rain. I got my friend inside again and explained it all. The next morning people from over 1/4 of a mile away came to make sure we got the snake out of our camper.

LOL, jeez, they were over a quarter mile away? That's too funny, lol. I agree, I think snakes are very misunderstood, but I think some funny stories come out of it. :)
Would love to hear some others! x)

When I was a little kid I always loved looking for reptiles of any kind but was super excited when I found a snake. Like any kid I wanted to show my parents anything I was excited about. I found out realllll quick that my mom hated snakes when I tried to show her a 3+ foot garter haha she locked me outta the house for about 3 hours as a 10 year old!! I just recently told her about my little rosy who apparently is never EVVER allowed in the house...I suppose 11 years only made moms fears worse haha

I have never been afraid of snakes in general, but I used to be scared of venomous snakes before I knew much about them. I was probably about 8, and I'd convinced my parents to let me cut the grass in the field behind the house with the riding mower. I felt like a big adult riding that thing and "driving" it.
I was going along nicely when I saw what looked like a big red stick- it was a huge copperhead. I turned the tractor off and stood on the seat screaming because I thought the snake was going to come up through the space by the gear shifter and get me! LOL
Now, I keep pretty much exclusively vipers, and before PA outlawed them, I had a beautiful pair of Southern copperheads. I miss those guys; they were great snakes.
My mom, now she's a different story- she is absolutely, deathly afraid of any and all snakes. I had to "save" her countless times from tiny garter snakes. She would see one while she was gardening, come running up to the house screaming and sobbing, and I would have to go remove it from the garden and take it down to the woods to release it out of her way.

What made you decide to keep venomous snakes?

I've always found the vipers to be very beautiful animals. I think it was a combination of learning more about them as I grew up, gaining experience with many non-venomous snakes, and finding a great mentor to teach me about working safely with hots. I used to tell myself I would never keep any venomous snakes; now I can't imagine my life without them.

Do you have a thread? I'd love to see them. And I agree, venomous snakes are beautiful. I love the African Bush Vipers the best, because of their color varieties. That and viperkeeper on YouTube had a video of one drinking water and it made me die it was so cute! T.T (No pun intended! ;D)
