I added some more plants to the little guy's cage. As it turns out, he went through a full shed cycle without anyone noticing. Really says something about how well he can conceal himself in this cage, even before I put in all the new plants.

Wow! That's an amazing setup. Are all the plants live?
Your husbandry for an animal that most people would house or hoard in rack systems is really inspirational.
I don't buy the excuse that ball pythons do better in smaller enclosures. This is exactly what I am talking about when I say give the animal a bigger enclosure and just fill it up. It will feel just as secure.

Very nice enclosure. I'm jealous. I really do need an interior viv decorator :)

Yes, all the plants are live. Well, let me add an addendum. All of the plants are live or were at some point in time. The mondo grass that was put in from the start was too close to the basking light and couldn't handle the heat. But the only artificial thing in there is the water bowl. He's still out and about, exploring his new surroundings.

That's a very cool set up. I'd love to do something like that for all my snakes.

What kind of substrate are you using?

Plain topsoil with some mulch in it. I scattered a bit of eco earth on top and stirred it into the surface layer to make it look a bit nicer.

Have you ever grown plants in Top Soil before? I've never had any luck with it. Which is why I switched over to Miracle Gro organic choice.

Yes, it just depends on the topsoil you buy. Some stores sell soil that has mostly inorganic matter (sand, rocks, etc.) and not much in the way of plant food.

I really love the looks of his enclosure! That's a nice looking bp, too.

Thanks everyone. Evidently there is at least one earthworm living in there.

Awesome setup, great looking BP too.
My BP lives in a clear, rubbermaid tote with newspaper substrate, and couple of old planter pots cut in half with holes in the side for hides, and a water bowl, oh and a UTH.
Love the all natural look but I found out when I tried it with my turtles, it is alot of work to maintain and keep clean, turtles are much messier than snakes though, but if you can pull it off it looks great, as you've shown.
