Feeding problem

I am having trouble with my new dumeril boas wanting to strike/eat live small mice. Tha tank is warm and he has a hid. I got him 5 days ago he is about 22 23so inches long and is active when im handleing him he dont move around too much in the tank.. i dont know what to do please help

Im not sure what your issue is EO. Are you saying your new snake won't eat? That's not too uncommon. He probably just needs some time to settle in. A lot of young snakes are shy and flighty when they first arrive. What are your temps like? Do you have pictures of your snake and set up?

I just recently purchased a Dumeril's boa about a month ago now and i had to wait about a week and a half before i got him to eat so dont worry. when you do feed him leave the room for a bit they tend to be shy eaters at times.

I do have pics and i cant get the temp gage cuz being weekend my pet store aint open and that the only place ill by my snake stuff but i have heating lamp and and a hide with a branches kinda thing so he can climb (i know they dont climb but it looks good lol) he has fresh water everyday but i have pics but im working with my phone so i cant really figure out how to post them..... maybe its just hes not hungry yet or something ill keep yall posted if it goes a couple weeks then ill really start worring (its my first snake) i will take all the advise i can get thought thank you

You definitely want to make sure your temps and humidity are in the proper ranges. Is your heat source controlled by a thermostat? Do you have hides on the warm and cool sides? Once your husbandry is dialed in your snake should eat just fine. There are a lot of folks here to help. Best wishes.

Yea i am goin to get a therm here pretty soon... i want him to thrive and be happy.... what did you nean by husbandry ( sorry im new to all of this)

Husbandry is the recommended temperature, humidity, housing and feeding guidelines for your specific pet. I found a care sheet for dumerils boas. I hope it helps. Some of the boa keepers may have other helpful info for you. I'd recommend getting a thermostat ASAP. It's a very important tool when keeping snakes that require a heat source. I would also ditch the heat lamp and go with an under tank heater or radiant heat panel for your heat source. All the best.

Heat lamps tend to dry out the tank a lot, making it very difficult to maintain proper humidity.

Is your boa in a glass tank with a screen top? Heat lamps suck a lot of humidity out of tanks which could dehydrate your snake and eventually cause health issues. I'm not saying they should never be used but they aren't the best primary heat source in my opinion. I occasionally use an infrared heat lamp, controlled by a dimmer, for night viewing and to boost my ambient temperatures a little bit in the winter.

You're going to need some adjustments E. You have to get your heat source under control first. Get a small under tank heater and thermostat ASAP. You can get both of them for about $45 on Amazon. How are you measuring/maintaining the temps/humidity in his tank? You also want hides on both the hot and cool sides of the tank. You could also cover three sides of the tank and add a few fake plants for cover and some added security for your snake.
