Several years ago, I had a bad case of Salmonella poisoning that required 2 trips to the emergency room as well as antibiotics. Something I never wanted to go through again. I did have snakes & turtles at the time also.

I always scrub my hands/arms after handling any of my snakes, their enclosures or food. I'm sure there is always the possibility for contamination.

This Tuesday, I got bitten from a full grown California King right after he ate and I didn't know he had just eaten. Could bacteria have transferred from the rat to me? I woke up with a severe headache and upset stomach Wednesday morning and have been very weak with an upset stomach ever since. Does this sound familiar and has anyone else experienced this?

I don't know about bacteria from feeding... However the salmonella that snakes carry isn't much of a risk..

The salmonella on snakes is a tropical strain, and dies very quickly once off the host body. I had my gf take some swabs and test them in the lab she works in as she's a salmonella lab technician. :)

Thanks for that. Hope it's no big deal, maybe just something I came down with. Hope not Ebola!! LOL!! I'm not far from Emory, after all.

Unless you've licked an Ebola patient I wouldn't worry about that. :)
