Found this Eastern Garter (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis) today near my home.
It freaked right out when I caught it, mouth wide open, death rolls, musking, the works. Then, it calmed right down and allowed me to take some great shots of it. It actually calmed down so much that you'd think it was a pet. When I released it, it almost slithered back onto my hand - then it sat there a while and allowed me photograph it.

Anyway, here are some pics.

He musked, but not much of it got on my hand, thankfully. It was stinky but it washed off :P

Nice! He's so cute, great pics. The close-up of his scales is neat, but his skin looks kinda gross, lol.

I have a Canon PowerShot SX20is (point and shoot camera). It's a few years old, but I like it.

My photos have gotten considerably better since I started using the Av setting instead of Manual or Auto.
