i was wondering, what is more important when determining when a corn snake can safely breed, size or age?

Never breed myself, but I believe for females, it's a combo of both and for males it's weight.

I believe there's a rule of 3. They should be a minimum of 3 years old, weigh 300 grams and be at least 3 years old so from that rule id say both are important.

what if by 2 and a half years they are 300g?

I guess that might be ok but what's an extra 6 months you know just to be sure? I understand the excitement and eagerness to bread but in hindsight 6 months is nothing compared to your snakes health. But again it might be ok I'm not that educated when it comes to snakes age of maturity for breeding, I just know that's the general rule. No one knows your pet as well as you do so if your confident they are ready to bread then it's up to you.

well they were hatched in may so they will either be 2.5 years or 3.5 years.

I don't think 6 months would make a difference but I'm not too sure. if your snake is indeed 2.5 years old maybe get his weight just over 300 grams to balance everything out.
