Hi guys. I just bought my first snake today at the east coast super expo in pa. Hes a bp pastel yellow belly. Hes so sweet today was his feeding day and he was very nice and always wanted to explore... But to my point ive wanted a snake for a long time and i had 20 gallon sitting around but it needed cleaning. My dad talked me into cleaning it with pine sol even though my instinct told me no. We ended up cleaning it with pine sol:( i just found out its toxic and i feel horrible truly i really love him and need help... WILL IT KILL HIM???:(

Yea get him out asap an don't do it again. Use hot water and bleach and rinse thoroughly. Oh and ignore your dad next time

Well atleast now you know not to use chemical cleaners.

Clean only with a vinegar and water solution, or a mild soap like Dawn and rinse THOROUGHLY.

Always, always look up online or ask somewhere knowledgeable (like this forum) before doing anything you're unsure about it... it's better to be too cautious than to make an easily preventable mistake that might kill your snake.

Among a pile of other chemicals it probable has Phenol in it from the pine which it toxic.

See thread on http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/elaphe-guttata-guttata/57985-pine-shavings.html

A little rinse is probably fine. (Water / bleach...then just water)

I like a little overkill sometimes so I would likely put the garden hose in the tank and let it just run and rinse itself for 15 minutes in the back yard.

He should be fine if it was just a few hrs or something similar.
Good luck on that one.
