I wish I could say hello for the first time on a happy note, but I need some help. ;n;

I have a male Western Hognose snake, and he's acting really edgy and skittish. Whenever I try to reach down to pick him up, he either hisses or hides. He is eating fine, and still comes out and goes underground on his usual schedule. I fairly recently cleaned his terrarium. What's going on? I've gotten pretty close and don't see any mites or anything, and he isn't shedding.

This is my first time having a snake. When I first got him, the herpetologist at the store said he was the most docile snake he'd ever seen. I've had Furry (yes that's his name shut up it's adorable) for 2? years now and he's never acted like this. Anyone could pick him up out of the terrarium and he'd be fine.

I'm starting to worry about him, it's heartbreaking to see the poor boy so skittish. :c

My reptiles always get defensive when I disturb them. This is totally common!

Could be he's reaching sexual maturity now and his hormones are raging. At first I thought his name was Fury, which I thought was really cool. Then I saw it was Furry and I thought, ok, that's cute too :)
