So I got a snake today from a pet shop in a souq. He's just a layman who's selling animals so he doesn't even know what specie he sold me or how old she is. lol. I don't know if she's male or female but I like to call her she.

Here are pics of her :
Her head and body :

She's about 18inches/45cm long

Behavior description : She just sits there and doesn't move unless I'm holding her, she sticks her tongue out (more often if I'm holding her). She gets scared and pulls back if something moves suddenly in front of her. She never opens her mouth (unless she's eating, but she hasn't eaten yet).

The guy told me that she needs very high levels of humidity so he has her in an aquarium with like an inch of water in the bottom (semi aquatic snake I guess?). However I put her in a plastic box (will get a proper tank later) and raised one of its sides so that the water is not covering all of the bottom. And she seems to have no trouble staying at the dry side, so I guess she doesn't really need water.

As for feed, he gave me a small box with no label of feed that looks/feels EXACTLY like dry cat/dog food and smells like it's made of dried fish. I guess it's turtle feed. Pet shops in this souq are notorious for being ignorant and swindling customers. They once sold me quail males when I clearly told them I wanted females. They also sell quail feed for 4X the regular price. Anyway, I'm not gonna feed her that, cause AFAIK there's no dry snake feed. He said she only needs 2 or 3 pellets per week. They're the size of regular bb pellets.

I need to know what specie this is so I can learn more about my snake. If she can live on quail eggs or chicks it'd be great cause then I wouldn't have to buy her fish/mice since I raise and incubate quail myself. I don't think she can swallow a whole quail egg though.

THANKS :)

I do not know of any snake that regularly eats pellets.

Hopefully the photo issue can be worked out so we can help you ID it.

Not trying to come across as abrupt, but...Why did you acquire a snake that you did not know the species or anything about? I mean, this guy could have sold you some weird species of Asian rear-fanged water snake or something.

I don't think anyone can help you here until we can establish what kind of snake you actually have.

My advice for the future is: DO NOT buy or get any kind of animal unless you A.) know what it is beforehand, and B.) have done at least some research to what it needs.

Either the guy you bought from was an idiot or you got played. Snakes do not eat pellets, ever.

The snakes behavior is totally normal, at least for now. I'm worried about the cage set up. Standing water is usually not good. Like you said it might be semi-aquatic, but from everything else in your post, I question that. get pics posted of the snake and your caging.
