View Full Version : Does Your Rosy Boa "Socialize" with You?

It seems that my Daisy does. I'm sure she's not actually socializing with me, but she does make me think she is sometimes! When I talk to her she looks directly at me and it's like she's acknowledging me. She seems to add "something" to the "conversation." When I hang my head over her terrarium she often greets me. At the very least she's curious about me and likes to investigate. If she's not "feeling social" she burrows and hides.

Yes, I'm crazy.

Nice psycho. Mine was the same way- cool little boas. Nine out of ten times, extremely curious. One of ten, did not want to be bothered.

The only thing mine wants to do with me is try and bite me otherwise she just stays in her hides or under the paper.

Don't know what it is, and don't want to jump to conclusions but what seperates my Irian Jaya carpet python from my other snakes is that when I open the cage door he'll come right out onto my arm. He's always been mellow and never showed any signs of stress or nervousness when being handled.

Haha, yes None, my other rosy boa, Pepper, is a mean little one. S/he is very feisty and used to try and bite me through his/her glass terrarium. Pepper figured out pretty quickly that that doesn't work, lol. Right now s/he tolerates petting with a snake hook.

Mikoh, my Daisy does the same thing!

My rosy boa, Boaz, has the best personality of any snake I've met so far. He is mellow, extremely trusting, calm, friendly and curious. He does seem to be more intelligent than some snakes, there's something weird (in a good way) about him that I just can't put my finger on. You're right, rosies do seem to be *almost* affectionate, if a snake could be affectionate.

I use to have a Ball Python that I thought was remarkable. I was 14 when I got him and I ALWAYS held him, I took him out with me places and to my friends and he would just relax on my neck and glasses. (I'm aware now this was a bad idea, but I was 14!) He never suffered from this kind of behavior, I would put him away to feed and take him out the next day, he got most of his heat from my body and the sun directly, but he was never sick so I kept doing it. He seemed more like a dog, without the ability to come when I called (Not having ears can be a problem!)
