I've been looking to try out some different substrates and hardwood bark mulch caught my eye. Is anybody using it?

Personally, I use pure cypress mulch from home Depot on my snakes, once they get out of quarantine. About $3 for a bag at Home Depot. Can't beat the price, and holds humidity well.
Same. I've heard people say it's a risk, but I've been using it for many years with no ill effects.

Honestly, don't remember. As long as it's pure, it's OK. Don't get a blend.

Unless you are looking for a natural look, you can't go past recycled paper kitty litter. Easy to clean, and helps to minimise the odours. And it's cheap.

I use regular shredded paper and it seems to work fine. I was just thinking of experimenting with some other stuff. When my grey rat snake is larger, I'd like to put him in a bioactive enclosure, so I think it may be nice to give him a transition period at some point.
