If it's a good vet and you have the dough, go for it. It's nice to have piece-of-mind.

I agree with corr. If you want to chance it then cancel .. but you're risking the snakes healthy (maybe even ur health) , and the health of ur other animals.

May be to late to chime in on this, but I would say that it would depend on where you got the snake from. If you got him from a very good well respected name in the reptile bussiness, I would not see any reason to take him to the vet. Especially if it is not a "reptile vet". Other then checking for ri or parasites (which shouldn't be an issue if you got him from a respectable breeder) a normal vet probably wont tell you all that much.

One of the most important things when you start keeping snakes is to find a reptile specialist vet, or a vet who know well this world. Always try to look for a vet who has the most experience with reptiles that you can find. better for you (in this way you don't waste your money) and better for your snake/s

I brought mine as soon as we got him and for $60 we got him sexed (which helped with our future...space...planning!), a week's worth of shots for a respiratory infection, and an overall checkup which was great for peace of mind. Would recommend it to anyone--but as everyone else suggested make sure it's a vet who knows snakes.

I agree with everybody (I have no burmese myself) but any time you take a snake to a good reptile vet you get a piece of mind. And hey whats that worth to you? :) But also like everyone said if you got him from a respected breeder you shouldn't have to worry....

and really its true that a normal vet won't be able to tell you much, even a excellent reptile vet will probably only give him a general look over and a fecal. Its never a bad idea to have fecals done though! If you just want piece of mind, just pay to bring in a fecal sample.
