Thanks guys. Frank he was produced by Nick Mutton. I'm fairly certain there is only one ivory line though so he's most likely related to Mike Curtin's ivories as well.

All of your snakes are stunningly beautiful! I especially like the jungles with the vivid contrast between the yellows and the black. I believe that if I ever branch into constrictors, I'll be contacting you about your jungles. Gorgeous snakes!!!

I did not know there was only one line. Hopefully you guys learned from the granite projects and are trying to out cross these guys. They are some beautiful animals. I am glad to see your carpet collection is doing so well, you must be having a blast with these guys.

I'm unaware of the granite projects. What issues were people having with them?
But yes I believe these snakes are being outcrossed a fair amount right now. For example this male is actually an outcross(ivory jungle to a normal B/Y yellow) which is why he isn't all white.

I guess she could be considered high yellow, though I don't really know what people mean by that term.
Re: granites
I'll PM you- I don't want to hijack the thread.

lol no worries about hijacking. I'm done showing off my babies! It'd be nice for people who stumble upon this thread to learn about the granite problem as well.

No problem. I have always enjoyed talking Morelia with you. Do Shaunyboy and Terranaut still frequent this forum?
Regarding granites: this is based on conversations I had with Nick Mutton. I have been trying to get into granites for a while- it is my favorite carpet python morph. Last year he talked me out of it and told me to wait for this year. Basically the gist of it is that granites have problems reproducing and problems with their offspring- critically and commonly. The problems are speculated to be from severe inbreeding. In the early 90's a trio of 1.2 IJ s were imported to the Netherlands from Indonesia. These snakes proved to be het for the granite gene and that's how we got the snakes. Problem was that they were never outcrossed. It got so bad that the breeders on the ground floor of this morph all got out of it a long time ago. Nick was telling me he had 5 of his snakes genetically tested and they were found to be 80% genetically identical which is quite incredible. He has been working on out crossing the gene with wild caught blood to save the morph. I have been waiting for him to do most of the hard work before getting involved lol. I found this fascinating.

And there you go. I was always wondering when problems would arise due to inbreeding. I know it can be done for several generations but you can only go so far... What do you think about australian carpets in US populations? Since Aus has closed it's borders(and assuming they won't open in the near future), do you think the rest of the aussie carpets will fall into inbreeding depression? or do we have enough individuals to prevent it?
I do not know. That is an excellent question. Ne6w lines do occasionally come over from Europe and some eventually get crossed into our American stock but many people try to preserve those localities. I personally would be one of those people. I really like the Palmerton Jungles and Rockhampton coastals. If I ever got one I would not cross the lines and would try to keep the locality pure- BUT- this concept is inbreeding. I do not know enough about genetics to know how sever or quickly inbreeding problems occur. In the case of the granites the inbreeding started in the early 90's (I believe 1994) so that is a pretty long time

I do have a pair of rockhamptons so I will be hatching out locality coastals in a couple years. I always thought most US black and yellow jungles(non-locality) were mostly palmerston blood.
Really? I thought the Palmerston jungles were smaller and exhibited slightly different patterning. I also thought they were newer. I could completely be wrong- that is not based on anything other than my preconceived notions. Why do you link most jungles to the Palmerston locale?

I have no more authority to say otherwise, it's just something that was said to me by someone who works with carpets in Aus. He says our jungles have a lot of palmerston blood and over there they usually only differentiate between palmerston and atherton jungles. In otherwords, they only consider the really black and yellow jungles inside the rainforest as "real" jungles and that most of US populations come from that area. I too have heard that palmerston locale jungles reach small sizes(around 4-5 feet) but then again many of our designer jungles only reach that size as well. In the end who really knows, since we can't trace our founder stock to the location they were picked from.
Though I did mention to him that jungles that come from Tully and Mission beach are also black and yellow, he said he considers those localities as part of the "palmerston" group.
That's pretty interesting. Maybe one of our Aussie friends can weigh in.
