Hey yall! Hiking today and snapped a picture of this black kingsnake that crossed my path. Also got a picture of something else on the trail, I'm not sure what it is. It was dead when I found it, which was sad, anyone know what it could be?

Edit: somewhat off topic, sorry for the image size, I can't get anything larger to upload.

I'm really not sure about either one, the pics are very small. My gut feeling is that the first is a Black Racer. The second is ever harder to see, I'm thinking it may be an Earth Snake or Dekay's? It's very hard to see lol. Maybe you could upload the pics to photobucket and link them? Your location would be helpful too.

Dead one looks like a redbelly. How long was it.

Same thoughts as FWK. Hard to tell from small pics.

Hey yall! Sorry for leaving out my location! I'm in Nashville Tennessee, and these were both seen at Edwin Warner Park.

As requested: Photobucket links below! Thanks everyone so much for your help with this!!

Thanks for the bigger pictures, the first is a definitely Black Racer the second is actually an Eastern Worm Snake.

the second is actually an Eastern Worm Snake.

You're right. I get my tiny-brown-found-under-logs snakes names confused sometimes. I used to find a lot of these when I was a kid looking for ring-necked snakes.

I agree on both. The larger pics and location helps!;)

I'm glad the larger pictures helped!

I was sad to see the Eastern Worm Snake was dead when I found it, I got excited when I saw it on the ground and pulled out my camera SO fast to take pictures, but when I noticed it didn't move I realized it was dead. My first guess was that maybe a hiker accidentally stepped it on it without noticing it, it was right in the middle of the path. However I'm really not sure because it's body didn't show any real signs of being stepped on, and considering it's size, I would assume a hiking boot would do a lot of damage.
