My mom and I found a dead snake under our trash barrel and now we're scratching out heads trying to figure out what kind of snake it is. Sorry for the low resolution. We live in midwestern Missouri.

We're thinking that it could be a Prairie King Snake or a Black Rat Snake.

Looks like a rat snake but I'm not familiar with what species you have in Missouri.

I'd say it's a rat snake as well

Yeah it's a Black Rat Snake. In your area it's a Western Rat Snake, aka Black Rat.

The head is too different from a King, I agree as well. Haha here's some pictures of comparison

Good looking Black Rats, they Eastern Rats? I've been thinking about ordering a few more Rat Snakes this fall and an Eastern is high on my list.

I don't know, they aren't mine sadly. But I would say rats I pretty cool to keep. I'm looking forward into getting a Red Tailed Green Rat.

They can be temperamental (I watched first hand at the Tinley Park expo when one whipped around and bit someone in the face) and frequently have trouble adjusting to life in captivity unfortunately. Gorgeous animals though.
