View Full Version : Shedding Issue
I have a young pueblan milk snake and he just tried shedding yesterday, but he has a lot of unshed scales and pieces of old shed on him.
I raised the humidity to ~60% so I don't know why that happened.
His eyes are fine, but he's acting really hyperactive/defensive right now so I can't really help him.
Will this fix itself or is there something I can do other than raising humidity levels.
NOTE: He also has a large water dish for him to lay in.

How long before he she'd did you raise the humidity?

As soon as his skin started to become pale, probably like a week before
Everything is good now, I put him in a humid box and then let him slither through my hands.
It's all gone, thank god.

Yep a humid hide helps during the shed cycle. I use dampened sphagnum moss.

Thinking about adding one of these hides to my tank for right now

Great idea! I have them in all my enclosures. I put moss in both the hot and cool side hides. When in shed I keep the moss damp. Works great for me!
I've found two of my young CB14 Retics sit in their water bowls pre shed. A couple of my older ones do this also. I wish they all would :)

Lol that's only going to work for maybe another month or 2 with a retic, then I'm going to probably work in a misting system of some sort

LOL, it would take a buttload of sphagnum moss for a retic humid hide!

You'd be surprised, my 8ft tiger girl curls up and soaks no problem in a 33L rub in her viv. Just need to make sure you don't put too much water in ;)

Lol that's 8 feet, add another 10 on top of that for a mainland and a 33L is no long a viable option
