Has anyone ever thought to use a dog crate as a snake cage? Maybe cover the holes with screen or foil, plexi on the front door. Could you heat these with a radiant heat panel? Or heat pad?

I don't think they'll take the heat from a heat panel, plus that's a lot of air getting out so you would need to cover 90%+ of it to maintain humidity. Honestly there are a lot better options that are both less work and probably cheaper, have you looked at rubbermaids?

I don't really need a new snake cage, just a thought that I had while looking at craigslist. Thought it might be an interesting modification.

I don't think that would be a very wise idea, you would have to cover so much of that, plus if you have a smaller snake there going to crawl right out the front holes

Yeah you're probably right.

Yeah, its enough of a pain to convert a fish tank into a proper reptile enclosure. A plastic dog crate? Not worth it.

The only thing I've ever used a dog crate for, was to keep a big burm in during a show. Other than that, as they said, no use. Props for the creative thought process, just no use.
