Alright, it's time to fess up. Who else out there talks to their snakes, especially when handling them or it's feeding time.? Whenever I take one of my snakes out for handling, I find myself talking to them tell them how good they look or how big they're getting etc. I know that they can't hear me and I'm not one of the people who believes my snakes have feelings towards me or that they actually like to be held. That said, I still talk to them every time I pick them up and I find it hard to believe that I'm the only nut-job herper out there:wacky:
Fess up people. It will make you feel so much better. I'll start. My name is Jim and I talk to my snakes.

All the time. Even when he isn't out and he is roaming around in his viv and looking out the glass doors
Oh yeah, I talk to them all the time. I talk to wild snakes and just about everything else I find when herping too. Frogs, insects, spiders, birds, etc. I've even caught myself talking to the trees. Really I'm just giving voice to my thoughts. But I'm sure if anyone snuck up on me they'd think I was a loon.

I wholeheartedly admit.....I talk to my snakes......though admittedly more towards my sand boas and my Hognose, because they're just too darn cute:D

Lol same here.
I do have long conversations with my tortoise though. She tells me all about her day and I tell her all about mine. She can actually talk I swear :wacky:

I don't really talk to them, but occasionally when I'm doing cage maintenance in my BCI's enclosure or trying to get him out and he acts like he's going to bite I'll call him a name or something along those lines, haha.

I talk to them but usually only when I'm frustrated with them like if I'm trying to get them back in their cage or trying to take pictures and they won't sit still.
All the time. Even though they don't hear I firmly believe animals can sense your state of mind. Talking to them is a good way to keep yourself mellow and give out good vibes, without sounding to hippyish lol.
Hell i do, i talk to all my reps i even used to talk to my fish.....i know they dont care but i find them to be helpful for my mental health

Talking to my snakes actually is really therapeutic for me, especially if I have a hard day at work or i'm having a tough time with my depression and anxiety..

Ooh I definitely talk to my snake. And my cat. And any other living thing I come across. I'll talk to the trees on a walk through the local trails, and swear at the bugs invading my place. No shame.

Sometimes. Usually its along the lines of:
"Just eat the stupid rat, you #$%@!!"
or
"Don't you dare bite me."
or
"@#@$%, why did you just crap all over my clean shirt?!?!"

I talk to most of my animals even though they don't understand what I am saying it helps me stay in a calm mood while working with them.

I love that we're tearing down the walls that hide just how crazy we all are.jk
I'm guilty aswell, not all the time. But I find I talk to gravid females, my retics(mostly moving the jamps, they can be a pain), and when snakes are striking/hissy. Mostly when snakes are acting up, I say things like "it's okay", "calm down", "I don't want to hurt you", "I know this is scary", etc...
And with the jamps its mostly: "that's not food", "don't climb that, you %*€?%", "get in the cage", and the ever familiar "how did that pile come out of you?"
Haven't had a conversation with them, but a good friend of mine does with his torts.

I'm guilty of this haha. I love my snake like a child so I definitely tell her how cute she is or how proud I am when she strikes a rat pretty aggressively lol.

You folks are a riot! I laughed through this whole thread. Now you all need to get a parrot, they talk back. Oh and sometimes it's not nice.

I definitely do. Earlier today, when feeding her, it went something along the lines of "What are you doing? No, you can't.. Ah, no honey, that's not going to work that way. No really, you'll want to move that. Uhm no honey. Oh. Backwards? I guess that works."
I talk to all my animals, including my fish, and call them all my babies. Then again, I talk to inanimate things, too. Earlier at work tonight a broom fell right in front of a door I was trying to open with my hands already fairly full and I went "Really? Did you really have to do that?" So I feel considerably less crazy when I talk to my snake or any of my other pets. At least their sentient.

My youtube channel is full of proof of how much I talk to my snakes. It's often running commentary, and sometimes I add in what I think their commentary would be.
"Hey. Hey you. Noodle. I have your mouse, Noodle. You awake? Helllooooo?" Sigh, pick up hide, "Hey, numbnuts, do you want your food or not? What happened to that famous feeding response you guys are supposed to have? Oh there you go, now you see it. Do you waaant it? ...oh, you missed. Good job. Here. Here's the mouse. THERE YOU GO, now don't drag it through all of the substrate if you can help it."
My real confession here: my kingsnake has his own twitter account.

I talk to all of my pets! It just happens ... I don't even think about it, I just start talking. And yes, I feel dumb for talking to my snakes because they can't hear me, but it's still nice, haha.
