View Full Version : Craziest questions...
What are some of the craziest, funniest, most ridiculous questions/comments your non-snake loving friends ask you?
The one I get most is "Do they poop and pee?"
Of course, they aren't just going to keep their food in them forever.

I was asked one time if I fed my snakes what I ate for dinner, so I went with it and said how I got them out of the cage for meals and sat them down at the dinner table
I get the teeth question as well lol. my grandmother is convinced my snakes will kill me one day.

Honestly I stopped making my collection known publicly about three years ago and love the fact that I do not get such questions anymore. I do remember once being asked if the rats came back to life after they are defrosted.

Aren't they slimy?
For some reason this gets me frustrated the most.
No they are not slimy! Your skin is more slimy than the scales of a snake!

By far the most common question I get is "do they bite?"
I think I've gotten most all of those questions at one time or another but luckily not very often. The do they bite question I usually give people a pass on, as it depends on whether they are truly asking, "Does it have the ability to bite?" or "will this particular snake bite me right now?" which is actually a good question that I understand and often ask myself of other people's animals that I'm unfamiliar with and might not be able to read their body language.

Have you found out what's wrong with you for liking snakes??? Who in their right mind could enjoy the demon's pet??? You know, God turned sinners into snakes to make them crawl on their bellies for being disobedient!!!

People usually wonder what's wrong with me when they hear I have snakes as pets. They also think that my Ball Python will grow big enough to kill me some day. I then have to explain to them that, just like dogs or cats, there are big snakes and small snakes, safe snakes and dangerous snakes. My snakes are the small, safe snakes.
Then they ask how big my Ball Python/Rosy Boa are. When I tell them, they're always shocked that I own such "large snakes", and still believe that they are somehow dangerous.
o_o
Always "are any venomous", "they are not really pets, are they", " they don't do much" and "why?"

When telling people about their vent/cloaca they say things like "I thought it came out the end of the tail" or "I didn't know they pooped":D

For our display show, we put the snakes in plastic critter keepers, which the snake does not have much room in, but they are only to display the snakes. I'm asked a few time a day, if that is what the live in. This time I finally got tired and started to answer them by saying, Oh no their living enclosures are 1/2 that size.
I also got the "aren't you scared?" from my mom..that's when I was buying my baby BRB! She freaked out when she seen my carpet pythons, and that's not my biggest snake.
"Can you feed them something else or is it just mice/rats"
"Are they poisonous?"
"Do they kill you if they bite?"
Lol I'm glad I thought of this thread.

Two dumbest questions i ever heard were.
1. Do snakes have periods and how do you clean up all the blood?
2. What's wrong with my snake eat won't eat it's vegetables? These person had got a snake and had it on a vegan diet for six months.

I'm fine with anybody who wants to go vegan, but I can't understand how some people lack such a basic understanding of biology.
I actually don't get any weird questions, because my family is pretty cool with snakes. My grandmother is terrified of them, but my mom and sister find them interesting. They like my gold dust because he's easy to handle and really relaxed.

"Is it poisonous?" (I have a corn snake lol.)
"Does it go in a cage or does it roam the house?"
"Do the mice/rats come back alive after you defrost them?"
"You know that snakes will attempt to attack and eat their owners right?"
"Why do you keep a snake?"

Yeah I think "Why?!" is the most common question we're all asked. Those horrified looks when you tell someone you own a snake...
I
don't
understand...

"are they poisonous?"
I always answer that question by saying...
"No, they are perfectly fine to eat"
I get a bewildered look from the person every single time... I simply just walk away after that.

I've gotten:
Are the poisonous/venomous?
Do they bite?
Aren't you afraid of them?
Will they try and eat you/me/my brat/my pet?
Do they try and size you up when you have them out?
What do you feed them? (I love opening up the freezer to answer this question...)
Are they slimey?
These are the most obnoxious questions that I get but you have to figure that a lot of people have only very limited exposure to these creatures that we sometimes take for granted and I for one enjoy teaching people about the critters that I love so I always try and put on a smile and answer as politely as possible.
or "You know if it's crawling up your arm like that, it's sizing you up to eat you"
Please stop.

[when told that I do own snakes] "So do you just, like, let them run loose in your house?"
My typical response: "Of course, I just have a big pit in the middle of the living room!"
