As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm in the process of trying to get an eastern indigo. I've talked to all the right people, and the wheels are turning. We'll see how it goes.

In the meantime, does anybody here keep them? Can we do a showoff thread here to keep me occupied while I wait? I'd love to see any photos you have of babies, adults, cages, anything. Also any insight you might want to share, or funny stories, or why you love them, or why you don't....... Or people who don't have them, but would like to have them, you guys are welcome to chime in too. Anything!

Like most of you, I'm sure, I was that weird kid that was never afraid of snakes or reptiles. I started bringing them home at a young age and soon began actively searching the woods and farms near my home for whatever I could find. Sometime in elementary school, I came across a book in my school library that contained info about the eastern indigo. I was in love immediately. This book had a vague range map, and low and behold, my home state of Alabama was included in it! I just knew I could go out and find one! Unbeknownst to me, the closest one was probably at least 300 miles south of where I lived. The closest thing I managed to find was a bunch of extremely agitated black racers. :D I eventually realized the folly of my ways and focused on more realistic snakes.

That was back in the late 80's. But, here I am, married, with a 9 year old daughter, and the dream is still alive. I'm not a huge reptile collector like many of you, but I've stayed interested and kept a few here and there through my adult years. My indigo dream is still alive, and now, hopefully, I'm in a position to finally make it a reality.

So here I am.

I think the Eastern Indigos are beautiful too eminart. One of my favorite snakes for sure. I don't know if I'll be able to own one but I can admire yours :). Best wishes and keep us posted.

It's refreshing to see someone doing this level of research and preparation for a new snake! The indigo is an amazing snake and I have always wanted one as well. As EZ said, keep us posted!

Well, I'm not countin' my chickens before they hatch, but so far so good. I'll definitely plaster photos everywhere if it happens.

I'm just obsessive with a one track mind. Hoping to drum up some conversation to keep me entertained.

I don’t have many pictures, but there are some at least…

Sorry for the poor quality, but I had reflections any way I tried to take the pictures, these are still the best I got.

Here is a link to a German Drymarchon site. The owners of the site keep and breed pretty much any (sub-) species of Drymarchon. If you use something like Google translator you should be able to understand at least the basics of what they wrote – and there are lots of pictures… ;-)

Eddy´s & Biggi´s Drymarchon-Seite (http://www.drymarchon-seite.de/)

Please note, I don't know the people who created and own this site, I just found it some time ago and think it is really good and informative.

Great site, Roman. Thanks. Google translates it well enough to I can understand most of it.
