Hello,
at this moment I have only one, young Russian Rat, but I plan to have at least three of them, so here I will be posting any pictures... if I get them (:
Some of you can recognize Artemis from my introduce threat. She/he is already one year old, and my beloved first snake.
And here are some pics:

Beautiful. I Love russian ratsnakes. They are very inquisitive and "friendly" snakes.

Yeah, that's true, Artemis never even try to bite me or strike :) But I must admit, that she/he is rather shy little one.

Great pics, I have a pair about the same size and age of yours. I'm really starting to like these more and more every time I interact with them. They are curious and very friendly. And they are great feeders. You can't ask for more from a snake IMO.

I agreed, they are really simple to maintenance, and handling. For me the advantage is also the fact that they grow a little larger than corn or milk snakes :p but they are still easy and cheap to keep.

Nice! Should calm down with age and gentle care.
I think these guys need to be more popular in the reptile hobby. Pretty rare to see these in a collection.

Yeah, they really are fantastic, but people rarely have them :<
And yes, I hope that she/he will become more brave and less shy with age ;)

New pics. Again Artemis is more black with every sheet, but now he/she is more agressive and thinks that everything is food so sometimes she/he strike on me... but I still really love that snake, so it's no problem ; )
Sorry for that strange colors, but camera went crazy in the blue light of the aquarium and yellow light of desk lamp : D I will soon have a new camera so there will be plenty of new photos : D

Wow! I've never really found these guys to be that interesting, but they are really beautiful! I love those patterns :)
Sylphie
11-28-14, 03:34 AM
Yeah, it's sad that they are so underestimated, because they are really nice, easy to keep and inquisitive.
My adults were well over 5 feet and so gentle. I let kids handle them.

Are adults typically active like corn snakes, or more inclined to hang out like boas or pythons?
Sylphie
11-29-14, 04:40 AM
They rather more active than corns, that's the reason I choose russians :)
Great looking snake! I'd like to see one in person sometime.

Right, I plan to probing Artemis soon, and then look for future partner for her/him :)
Sylphie
02-08-15, 02:51 PM
So we finally did terrarium for her :) I must add bedding and the plants must grow, but it will be something like this (sorry for quality, but I take some photos in a hurry.
It take us something like 3 days to do (but there were really long pauses, haha!)
And the colors are rather light because in dark terrarium black snake will be totally invisible.

Gorgeous terrarium. What size is it? Any worries about humidity being a bit high?
Sylphie
02-09-15, 04:26 AM
No, there are a big cracks between glass and wood, and Russians rather don't need high humidity, so a water bowl should not produce so much moisture. But if something will be bad then we always can rebuild it :)
And about size it's about 20,5 x 18 x 29h (inch), there is still one more shelf that we can remodel and add to terrarium when the snake grows.
Sylphie
02-13-15, 03:12 AM
We added some small holes in wood for better ventilation, and Arty is already enjoying her new home :)

What type of paint did you use over the spray foam?
Sylphie
02-21-15, 04:35 AM
It's called "Fly Color, Acryl Base" in spray. We use this in fish aquariums too and it's completely safe after drying.

Do you have to put any type of sealant over it? Nice background & cool snake.
Sylphie
02-21-15, 09:52 AM
No, just spray it and let it dry :) It's totally water proof. And thank you!

I really want to try putting a setup like that together. Did you use a spesific type of foam and what type of store carrys that paint that paint you used?
Sylphie
02-27-15, 04:04 AM
reptiledude987, no, just normal spray foam from... (I'm not really sure how it is called in english, shop with supplies for house-builders, you know, paints, tools). Unfortunately I don't know where you can find that paint, it was purchased by my boyfriend some years ago and now we don't know where to find more :( That's why we must use just 3 colors in our projects.
sharthun, thank you very much! :)

There's a product called Great Stuff that looks pretty similar to what I see in the pics. It's mainly intended for insulating and filling gaps/holes. Not sure if that brand is available up North, but if not I'm sure there's something similar.
Sylphie
02-28-15, 06:34 AM
toddnbecka, yeah, that's exactly that foam for insulating and filing gaps :) I'm really weak in more "technical" english, haha!

Uh, unfortunately I was having a problem with my image hosting and all previous pics are now unavailable... I'm not really sure if I want to close this thread and start new one or just leave it as it is now :(
