I can use any advice I can get with my first breeding adventure.... I am breeding a sunglow motley that I've had for 3 years preparing and researching to breed. My oldest corn is 9 years old that I raised from a baby but I have other reptiles as well. I did not brumate and it has been 3 weeks and 5 days since her first mating with my male. Over two weeks they mated 6 times total and she never refused. She did shed the day after their first pairing because I didnt time the sheds right but anyhow She has a nice lay box all set up with damp spagnum moss and a small water dish (large one removed) amd I bought some hatchrite for the eggs. She was last fed a week ago and it was a nice big meal. She has since had two good stools and I'm not sure if should offer her food or not at this point. I fed her every 5 days for the past 5 feedings and previously she has been on a 7 day feeding schedule. My husband thinks she was blue when he checked on her friday and she does look pretty dull right now but she has always eaten in the blue so im not concerned about that but I didnt know if there are any contraindications to feeding this close to the prelay shed or even after the prelay shed?

So a few questions. One does she look gravid for sure and when can I expect eggs, and two should I offer her food?

Also she is a sunglow motley het for anery and the male is a snow so im wondering what kind of offspring to expect if I am successful and what are some good prices to ask? I am doing this as a hobby not to make income and a few people I have lined up to give babies too but it would be nice to offset some food costs.

Thanks!

Here are pictures of the happy couple...

This is just a suggestion, but if you're going to breed morphs, you should familiarize yourself with the basics of genetics. That way you can understand how to predict what genes will be passed on to the offspring of your pairings.

I have and I do know a little. I've read a couple of books and yes I have a degree based in biological science so I can do a punnet square but snake genetics is still confusing to me. I believe with this pairing and if my female is truely heterozygous for anery then I should get mostly sunglow motleys with a few ghosts and maybe a few anery. I just wanted opinions because I am new to this although I've been researching and talking to breeders for the last three years I still have a lot to learn. Also ive been told prices may range from $15-35 depending on where I am but again I am looking for more opinions.

Thank you and if anyone has any helpful tips or advice I would love to hear from you. .

Sorry to inform you, but you wont get any sunglows or ghosts. Sunglow is a selectively bred amel. You might get some low white amel motleys, het anery, but they probably won't constitute the sunglow name. And you wont get any ghosts because ghost is Anery+hypo. You'll probably get a few snow motleys though.

Sorry I meant to say snow not ghost in that comment. So you say I should get amelanistic motley and snow motley. Any possibility of getting anery? I really want an anery for myself...

I've stumbled across this in my own random research:

The Corn Calculator - Corn snake genetics prediction (http://www.corncalc.com/)

Might help figure out what you could get?

Male:*Snow,*Motley*(*Amel,*Anery,*Motley*)

Female:*Amel,*Motley*het Anery

Phenotype:

1 / 2*Amel,*Motley*het Anery

1 / 2*Snow,*Motley*(*Amel,*Anery,*Motley*)

I understand now if they both pass on the anery gene I still wont get an anery corn because there is no melanin to be passed on since they are also passing on the amelanistic gene.

So my okeetee if bred with my sunglow would just turn out offspring het amel het anery and then could be bred with each other to possibly make anery and amel?
