Hello, I just added a baby carpet python to my home. He or she is about 4 - 5 months old, and does really well with handling.

I just got a thermometer/ hygrometer for my babe, and really my main question is, is it normal for them to be completely in active except at night?

When I turn off the light in the evening, he almost always comes out immediately, wondering if this means he doesn't like the light?

Yes, totally normal. They don't do a bunch during the day, especially as juveniles. Are you using your light as heat? If so you should switch to another type of heat source.

yep they are mostly nocturnal, my two are the same @ nearly 24 months, they dont hide away much, quite happy to sit in the open, but they dont do much at all until it gets dark

My carpets just perch all day and do nothing. Once the lights go off, they either assume hunting position or start roaming their enclosures.

Mine was the same way, dormant all day and active all night

My year old JCP does the same, either perching or hiding all day and after 10 minutes of lights out, she's out and roaming. :)

As most have said. Very little activity during the day but they should pick up just before dusk and again before dawn. Some will be active all night.

Same here, my carpet sits around all day and active at night.

The vast majority of my carpets are completely inactive during the day and roam all night. There are two that I know of that move during the day as well but not nearly as much as at night!

he will feel more secure at night,so will cruise around exploring his enclosure,in the wild during the day they are easy prey for birds, etc,so i'm thinking hatchlings will be a tad paranoid about being eaten

they don't realise there's no predators in their tank

cheers shaun

P.S.most of my carpets are pretty in active during the day,at night they crash around their tanks, causing all sorts of upheaval
