Hey everyone,

Woke up this a.m. and walked out to the pool to empty the leaf catcher and this guy was inside. He seemed to be paralyzed because of how cold the water is but he is very much alive. I have two dogs so I want to identify him and make sure he is not poisonous before I just let him go. Put him in a large container for now until I figure it out.

This site will not let me post any pictures, I do not know why. Trying to figure out how to get the pics on here.

The snake is brown with two black stripes on each side with a light, yellowish belly. He also has some kind of marking on his head which look like marks that are just starting to develop. It is obviously very young. The stripes are vertical and go from a light tan to a dark brown. But like I said, are only on his head and then stop as if they have not developed fully yet. The rest of him is the brown with black stripes.

Very cool lizard. I see these all the time. Look closely you can see the ear openings and eyelids that snakes lack.

Knowing now that he is harmless, I picked him up and held him for a second then let him go in the brush. That was intensely scary. Even knowing he was harmless, I was just waiting for these gigantic fangs to appear and latch onto my face. Thanks for the info! That was cool!

Every time I see one of these it reminds me of the second Harry Potter movie where the basilisk has eye lids. My kids and I all groan every time.

Lmao, don't ever count on films to be accurate... That would take proper research and thought. :)

haha nothing to worry about even if it does bite! It'll just be like getting pricked by a small rose thorn or a toothpick.
