I heat two of my enclosures with under tank mats and while I've never had any issues with over heating, I want to add a thermostat to these enclosures. I noticed that Pet Mountain has the Repti-Temp 500R Remote Sensor Thermostat from Zoo Med on sale from $49.95 to $22.65. I'm always up for a good deal, but not at the possible expense of my animals. Anyone out there have any experience with this product - both pros and cons?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Jim you don't use thermostats? For shame! I dont think we can be friends anymore...lol. But seriously you should get some, you've got some great animals. Is it really worth risking them to save $40?
Honestly I don't trust the cheap on/off marketed for reptiles. I had a big apple herp click really loud rapidly and fail in the off or on position after the clicking started. And a zilla that varied to much in performance for me to use.
For cheap thermostat hydrofarm is the go to(ive got 4, 1 i use and 3 back ups for my herpstats & VE300)I haven't had any issues with mine, it's pretty consistent and only around $35.
But if you want to put some money into it....herpstat 2.

Hard to beat the hydrofarm for $30! I have 4 and 1 spare. Work great!

Actually, I only have two cages without thermostats and they are heated by low wattage under cage mats. I have a number of the hydrofarm and guess I'll get a couple more to finish off my last cages.

Jim, from what reviews I read, the Repti-Temp 500R Remote Sensor Thermostat seems to work fine. The only con that I can see, is the lack of a digital temperature readout. A plus is two outlets for heating sources.
