I live in Indiana and found this guy in the yard while mowing. Unfortunately I clipped his tail but I was curious to know if anyone can tell me what kind of snake this is. We have a 15 month old that plays in the yard every day so the wife is a bit worried.

I is a Brown's Dekay snake. It is completely harmless. It eats earthworms and other small critters ns wants nothing more than to be left alone. Tell your wife not to worry at all.
I wonder if he'll be okay with his tail like that? ):

The missing tip of its tail should not present it with any problems as long as it heals up cleanly and there's no infection.
