Hi,
I'm Dawn.
I have 2 rescued boa constrictors that were going to be euthanised, as they were meant to be breeders but ended up with "deformities". The one male is a 60% het albino Columbian Red-Tail named Fuerza; he has an apparent kink in his spine and was born in either '09 or '10. The female is a Sunglow named Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes, whose right eye fell out shortly after birth. She was also born either one of those years.*

I never had previous experience with reptiles (though always wanted a snake) until an old friend whose father bred boas, asked me if I'd like to bring them home, which I immediately did knowing they'd be put down. At the time (it's been 3 or so years) I lived with my parents who were terrified, so I managed to house them at various friends' places which I frequently visited to do the maintenance/feeding. It's since been over a year and a half that I moved out and have them living under my roof; I couldn't be happier. The female is typically docile but the male has been aggressive since day 1. I'm aware that frequent handling is beneficial but I've also read that certain individuals, regardless of the amenable reputation of that species, will have a more unpredictable and/or aggressive temperament.

Anyway, I love my children and wouldn't trade them for the world.

Thanks for reading ~

Hi and welcome. It's sad that some people will kill animals just because they don't fit into their "breeding projects".

Handling can get a snake used to you, but in my experience leaving snakes alone also work. I've had several feisty animals calm down considerably after being left alone most of the time(Except for feeding and clean up).
