Long story short, there is a guy who lives near here. He has 2 boa's which he thought were both males, turned out to be a couple. Now he is selling the male, which is a good thing but he was too late already.

His couple had 4 live babies and a bunch of slugs 3 weeks ago, he sold 2 to a local pet store but they wouldn't take all 4 of his hands. He put them in tiny plastic containers (about 5*10 inch) with only a water-bowl. Not even a heat-source, and put them for sale on the Internet. He has never fed them, and doesn't plan on even trying. Nobody has showed any interest in them so far, and i can't blame them. They haven't even gotten through their first shed properly, and look dehydrated. I offered to take them off his hands, but he wants me to pay full price for them.

Nobody to call in this country for help, they have been lucky the weather has been pretty good for the past 2 weeks, but i don't think they will survive being kept like this for very long. No matter what i say to him, he refused to believe me nobody is going to buy them, he thinks someone will because he offers them below retail price.

Needed to vent this.. Feel so bad for them :(

That stinks. Offer to take them and get them healthy to sell and then split the money.

You don't have an animal protection agency in your country?

We do, sort of.. But they don't do anything as long as the animals seem 'cared for, and they certainly don't come running for anything not-fluffy. Even if we do happen to get them to visit. We can't prove they aren't fed, and there are no rules as to how you should keep reptiles... So there is nothing we can do.

And alive does not fit the care criteria?

We shortly had animal police here, but they got disbanded! All we have now is volunteers, like animal rescue paramedics/ambulances. But they have no rights at all. We can call the national animal rescue line, which sends regular cops. But they don't know anything about reptiles, and that's all we can do.

I did call and report it, and they said they will check it out. But since it is very hard to prove that they aren't getting food, and they have an enclosure with fresh water available.. Chances are he might be told to provide them with a bigger enclosure, but that's probably it. I can't do anything for them, unless the owner decides to turn them over..

Sounds like a right idiot. Maybe you could offer to house them until they are sold, at least that way they'd be looked after?
