Hey everyone. Is there an acceptable size plastic tub / tote for an adult carpet python? Does anyone else keep their carpets in tubs? The reason why I am asking is that I am moving come May 1st and the enclosure (HUGE bulky custom enclosure) my carpet is in now is too big for the room my reptiles will be in. It will only be temporary until I can order something from animal plastics or PVC Cages. Want my girl to be comfortable in the mean time though of course.......

While you could technically keep a carpet python in a boa-sized tub, I wouldn't recommend it. Carpets love to climb and are semi-arboreal in the wild. I've kept a number of them over the years and have found that they utilize vertical space.
As a temporary enclosure though, you'd need to find a tub that is about 4' long x 2' wide.

I haven't seen one that I would use.

Check out marvelfreak's setups. He uses some kind of "christmas tree tote" from walmart for his carpets with perches. They measure about 4x2x15 if I am correct.
NeatlySmart.com (http://www.neatlysmart.com/mobile/item.aspx?itemid=107329&catid=1521). These totes work pretty well.

i use tubs and heat mats for hatchlings,i use vivariums for sub adult and adult Carpets
that said,i use tubs to quarantine any new Carpets i buy
i prefer viv's so i can see/watch my Carpets better
the above is just my personal preferences
imo as long as the tubs large enough,i see no issues using them
re Carpet Vivariums
as long as a hatchling is NOT a nervous feeder,i put them straight into 4x2x2ft Viv's,i just make sure there are plenty, hides, branches, fake plants, etc,so the hatchling has places to hide and feel secure
cheers shaun

You'd be surprised how many "big carpet breeders" keep their adults in CB70s. They seem to do well for those guys but, personally.....I like to create a little more "natural" environment for them and, give them some climbing areas.
Of course, I'm not keeping as many carpets these days but all of mine are in cages in which I can enjoy viewing them.

Awesome info!!! Thanks everyone. This will only temporary as stated. I too prefer a more natural environment but I'm not going to have much of a choice for a few months. @ Chuck - Those tubs look bada** man.
How secure are those big Christmas tree tubs? Do the lids lock down well enough to not need any extra security measures? Seems it would be a good idea to have one of those around for emergency uses / quarantine.

They are seriously awesome, heavy duty tubs. No extra security necessary. The lid has a long "lip" that fits over the tub so there is no gap whatsoever between the 2. And the plastic itself is so heavy duty that there is very little give... even when pushing on it you can't create a gap between the lid and tub.

Great news!! Where can you get them? Walmart??

Well, unless your Walmart still has Christmas stuff, then no. As far as I'm aware, that is the only time they carry them. Otherwise they have to be ordered.

My local Aldi store still as a few. At Christmas time you can find them for around $25.00. The rest of the year you have to order them.
You can order them from this site pretty cheap. IRISŪ Christmas Tree Box :: Welcome to NeatlySmart? :: Good things for your home & family? (http://www.neatlysmart.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=107329&catid=1521)
I order 5 a couple years back and with shipping it was right around $200.00.

I was just wondering what you do you heat your tubs? I see the heater outside in the room, are they sitting on heat pads or do you have radiant heat panels where i don't see em?
I have some of these tubs that i plan to use but my snakes arn't quite up to size yet.

Not sure what Chuck does, but I heat my snake room to around 85 degrees and do not give them any basking spots or extra heat. Higher enclosure are warmer and lower enclosures are cooler. Enclosures closer to the heaters get warmer also. It work fine for me and I do not have problems with the snakes eating or getting sick.

I use UTH and they work fine. The heater in the picture is to help keep the room temperature at 75. Then with the UTH it give my cages a nice 90 degree basking spot during the winter. My snake room 23 x 9.5 feet big so in the winter I always have at least one heat on. I have second one I use if it gets super cold out.
good to know, thanks to both of you.

I have a friend that keeps his carpets in fairly standard boa racks. They are happy and eating. I don't know that I would necessarily do it full time. For a little while she should be just fine.
