Started work on my new Carpet Python enclosure. Most of the enclosure will be filled with sprayfoam "rockwalls". Going to be planted and it will have a waterfall feature. The containers will be pools that overflow into a reservoir down below. More to come later!

Floor dimensions are 2x4. From the bottom platform it is about 5 ft tall. Anyone know of a better way to spray foam the inside? I'm just using cans of spray foam now and it looks like it will take quite a few of them.. I've used 2 full cans now and haven't even covered 1/5th of the tank. This might get a bit expensive..

Do you only want to use foam? I'd use a combination of some foam, corkbark(either with silicone or foam), some substrate(ecoearth on silicone/foam works great)

Using Styrofoam blocks for structures but most of the tank will be covered in spray foam.

The Styrofoam blocks will make a cave under the waterfall.

You can buy the foam in the big green cans that look like propane tanks at home depot or other major hardware stores

I haven't a clue as to what they cost.

How do you plan to provide heat and/or basking spots! Awesome build!

Going to build one of the shelves with a head pad inside that I will hopefully be able to have access to. Going to carve hole in the "rock work" and put lights in them angled for display and the plants. Haven't figured out what plants to use yet though. The plants will all be potted in the rock walls.

So I went to home depot and turns out the big tank of spray foam is 300$ so I'm sticking with just the cans and some Styrofoam sheets. also adding plastic pots into the wall for plants. More work to be put in today.

should look great when its done, lots of space too, nice!

be careful if you use heat lamps/ceramics, polystyrene has a very low melt and burn temp

I know you said the floor dimensions are 4x2.. but either the picture really distorts perspective, you are going to put this on its side when done, or its really only 2x2 because it looks like a sqaure footprint to me?

Either way looks really cool and can't wait to see the result when it is finished!

I plan on making some sort of enclosure around the lamps just haven't quite figured out how. I've decided on using cfls(2 on the top and one on the left side under the ledge) for the plants and have one halogen for the basking spot on the ledge. Any ideas on how to protect the foam from burning/melting?

as long as you give the CFL light fittings 15-20cm clearance from the polystyrene you should be ok, but I would suggest taking lots of temperature readings at first, anything over 70C is bad news with polystyrene, it wont melt at that temp, but it will release toxic chemicals

if you attach the halogen to the ceiling with a good ceramic fitting, and are careful about where it points, you should be ok, but be aware that halogen lamps can hit 150C+ even at low powers, an IR gun will help keep an eye on the temps. The ceramic holder itself will reach a significant temp (mine with 35W halogens are around 90-95C), so its important that the holder aswel as the lamp, are well clear of the polystyrene

you can buy protectors for reptile heat lamps, they are probably the safest option, but the wire may well heat to 70C+ with a halogen lamp, so just be careful to give it plenty of clearance

I will also be covering the polystyrene with a nice thick layer of grout. I'm not too worried about the CFLs its just the halogen that might cause problems. I don't have much room to work with where it is going...

Decided to build a box for the halogen basking light.
