I want to thank the forum for all the advice you've given me over the few years I've been a member. A lot of the husbandry/care information I know now is because of this place. I did know a fair bit of facts and info about herps before getting into the hobby, but I didn't know how to actually care for them properly as pets.

Because of this place, in three years I've gone from asking if I can feed chopped up chicken to a milk snake, not knowing anything about thermostats, eye caps, humidity during shedding, tubs, etc. to having the ability to give others husbandry advice.

I've used other snake and reptile forums, but this one is the best IMO. I try to endorse it as much as I can to other people I meet that are getting into the hobby.

My advice to newbies??? Don't be afraid to ask questions, and LOTS of them. Your pets will be better off for it!

Thanks again guys!

I'd also like to thank this forum, mostly for the entertaining pissing matches between differing methods/theories of husbandry. But also the same reason as you, for the things I've learned here.

Haha, despite the arguments that come up from time to time I still enjoy this place.

This forum has been the best thing I have encountered in years...not only have I learned a TON of information, but I have made a few friends that I would love to actually meet in person someday...and since our area is totally devoid of knowledgeable people (in terms of reptile keeping) I actually feel like I help people by giving them the info that you people have passed onto me...thank you all for all of your help! :D

if you like pissing contests then.....

you should become a member of the largest UK reptile forum...

it's just one giant pissing contest

cheers shaun

[UK forum] is what I think shaunyboy is talking about.

The pissing matches get old, and usually ruin a good thread, but I also agree that this (ssnakess) forum is the best for getting correct information!

The function of a forum;
Help others, learn, be entertained!
Never thought about it in that order before.

Having been on forums of one kind or the other for years, I've come to realize that the pissing and bickering are going to happen on all of them to some degree.

Like anything else on the internet you have to pull together as much information as possible and sift the correct answers to the top.

I agree and thanks Pareeeee for reminding me that his forum is a wealth of information and I consider it the best snake forum on the web. I too have learned a lot in the short time I have been here. Thanks everyone.

Me too! I have been given advice on here that saved the life of my BRB when a vet was mis-medicating the problem. Never been on such a helpful site as this one.

It's been embarrassing to admit just how much there still is to learn ("do your research" is such an endless quest, especially when so many resources stop short) but I too am thankful there is a place were folks make the effort to be correct and share info (edit: and) experiences!

I'll second everything that's been praised about this forum and the guys on it.

Believe me, here in the UK they SUCK!

Even long term keepers here learn from this site.
The best part is that we share info, everyone who has posted questions has at some point provided answers to another. The system works here.
Great thread.

I'd like to thank the forum too. My beardie is in a position where she brumates during the winter now(good setup and diet promote this I would think). If not for this forum, I'd probably think she was dying under her hide. I've learned to take my "bearded dragon vacation" comfortably when she is in brumation. That is just one thing I've learned. My only regret is that I didn't find this site sooner - may have helped save my ill lizard that passed away.

This forum is a lot friendlier than any Dutch forum. Calling a new member an 'animal abuser' for a tiny mistake in husbandry.. Or even '''groups of experts''' ganging up on people they did not like.. Was very common. It was sickening.. The mods having a full-time job filtering out the personal backstabbing comments, and removing some topics completely because they got so out of hand even some personal threats were made. -sigh. The Dutch forums i've been to ain't nice, don't miss them one bit.

This forum is a real delight, nice people and good information. A lot less mudslinging, and people genuinely trying to help each other out. And yes there will always be some pissing contests, but that's just what people do. It's real easy to look past a little of that on a forum as good as this one :D

I love this place too. Such a wealth of accurate knowledge. The pissing contests are always going to be around any time you put a bunch of human beings together. This is pretty much the mildest drama I've seen on a forum TBH. My husbandry has also evolved quite a bit since I started stalking this place regulary. I like how much I've been exposed to such a wide variety of herps here.

I agree. I've come a long way in the couple of years I've been on here, and I'm always learning new stuff. I also love the variety of animals on here, I get to see just about anything you could think of. :D
