Hey all! I'm new to the forum but I recently finished building a converting a spare cabinet to a custom cage for my year-old goini king snake. It took me a few months to complete because I travel a lot for work and mostly did it on weekends but I'm pretty satisfied with it. It'd be great to get some feedback or ideas for future builds.

The cabinet was left in my basement by the previous owners. I removed the top, the hinges, and the door and sealed the cracks. I used GreatStuff which I purchased at Lowe's to build the background and drilled 2in holes for ventilation on each side as well as two in the back. I stapled and hot glued mesh screen on both sides of the hole just for some extra security. I next grouted the foam after letting it dry for about a week. I applied about 3 layers of grout. I recommend making the first layer pretty thin so it can fill all the cracks. After I had finished grouting I sprayed a water/paint mixture through a spray bottle to give it some definition and contrast. From there I just started painting

How much does that weigh with all the grout?

After I finished painting, I added a 12" flex watt heat mat with a temperature regulator I picked up off of Big Apple pet supply. I drilled a 3/4" hole in the side wall and ran the cord through and sealed it up with an epoxy from Lowe's. I got a couple of plants from a local nursery and also added some grapevine wood and sphagnum moss.

One last set of pictures: picture of her on the top perch; the other pic is of her hide on the warm side kind of hidden under rocks and moss.

Love the cabinet conversion for a cage. Never thought of doing something like that looks really good. With the foam did you use any kind of structure for it or spray it and let it do its thing?

Thanks! I just gradually applied additional layers and it's held really well.
