View Full Version : Opinions on what this is?
This is a 2013 unsexed and unknown carpet python. He/she is a doll, and is getting yellower with every shed. It just shed yesterday so I thought I would post a few pics to see if anyone had any thoughts on what it might be.
Another pic, I guess only one attachment per post?

It's an unknown carpet python.
Could be a mix of coastal, jungle, diamond, irian jaya, darwins...etc and you wouldn't know. You'd need lineage info to really tell what it is. I have seen diamond jungle jag siblings(aka diamond jungle coastals) that look pure jungle.
Sure looks like nice though.

without correct lineage information then all we can do is guess
over here in the UK, there is little if any bloodline information available on Carpets
my best educated guess would be a Diamond Jungle Cross,or a Diamond Jungle Jag Sibling,as said these are only guesses going on the pattern and colours...
it is a good looking Carpet, that i would gladly add to my collection...
is she really that nice shade of clean crisp pale yellow in the flesh ? (like in your second picture posted)
i love the colours on that guy

As the others have said you will never truly know. I find the head pattern to be one of the most unique I have seen yet.
What a gorgeous little snake! I didn't realize there was so much confusion over carpets!

Nothing to add other than, what a beautiful snake :D
Thanks for the opinions everyone. I have also thought that it is starting to look very jungle / diamond ish. When I purchased it I got it very cheap and it was advertised as a jungle, I knew right away it was not a pure jungle, in fact it looked rather like an IJ cross at the time. But with each shed it is looking less and less IJ. I know I will never know what it is, but I find it fun to hear more experienced opinions.
Shaunyboy, it really is that yellow, it was hard to show the yellows in the pictures. I was surprised how yellow it was after this shed.
The faded head markings really throw me for a loop, as I haven't really seen any like that before. This snake is a really wonderful pet, and I am very glad I have it, and I am really excited to see it evolve with each shed. It is very curious, and docile, and just all around awesome. :)
These are still cell phone pics, but at least they are a little bigger so you can see more detail.

Very nice. I wouldn't be surprised to find a little darwin blood in there too.

Looks like a nice Jungle to me, the markings that people see that makes them look like they have Diamond blood in them are pure Jungles that have those markings bred into them them on purpose

I've never seen a jungle with that kind of tan/light brown background coloration, atleast not in US captive populations. There are wild jungles in Aus that are brown/tan but I'd be surprised to find them in US bloodlines.

Reagrdless of what it is, its a really really nice looking snake, it has such nice clean bands
I would also be very surprised if this was a pure jungle. I've never seen a jungle with a head like that. Where I live in BC, it seems that there are many more siblings floating around than pure jungles. There are several local breeders working with carpets, Henry Piorun, Don Patterson, Jeff Favelle, Justin Clarke and I'm sure a few others. And it doesn't seem that people don't keep track of "lines" here as well as they do in the states.
So at best I can call it a sibling or unknown cross, which is what I have been labeling it as myself. I don't even know the sex, though I would like to some day. I hate calling it a he/she lol! But I do love to hear other people's opinions on what it might be. :)
