View Full Version : Loveridge's Legless SkinK
I just picked up three of these little skinks. They are too squirmy to hold and get a picture. When I put them in their new quarters, they immediately buried themselves. Cute little guys - they look much like small shiny black snakes.
I have the care sheet from LLL Reptiles. Anyone else have any experience with these guys?
So, I see no one has kept these guys.
After nearly a month, one poked its head out this evening. Amazing head, small eyes and forked tongue. I got a couple of rather bad pictures when I brought them home, which I will post in the next few days. Just picture a sort of shiny black worm about 5 or 6 inches long with a lizard head.
I have put mealworms, waxworms and small crickets in the cage to see which they prefer to eat. The waxworms got the most response, but its hard to tell when the mealworms and waxworms bury themselves and all the feeding, if any, takes place underground! Can't be sure, since I have never actually observed one of the skinks eating.

Many lizards greatly enjoy waxworms, it seems. I have read many a time, though, that they should only be given as a "treat" now and then due to their fatty content.
Look forward to pics!
Pictures when I got them home. I took them outside onto the patio. Despite precautions, one managed to get out of the plastic container, squirmed madly across the patio and I almost lost it! Fortunately I did recapture it, but they are very fast and squirmy.

Very cool!! ;)
It is hard to tell the head from the tail. The head does have very small eyes and the forked tongue flicks out like a snake. Amazing, and I have not been able to capture that in a photo.
