I have two yearling kingsnakes (185g and 168g) and a 6 month old bull snake (114g). I've always fed them mice. They usually eat 1 small mouse and 1 hopper per feeding. After looking at the feeders today I'm pretty sure they're ready for mediums. I've got about 3 month supply of frozen mice feeders left. They're a combination of hoppers, small, and medium mice. I also have about a months supply of rat fuzzys. I'm not sure if I want to (or should) transition the snakes to rats exclusively or if I should offer a varied diet. I have heard that snakes tend to grow bigger/faster on rats. My question is, should I exhaust my current mice supply before trying the rats, or can I try to mix it up a bit and maybe offer the rats every 2-3 feedings? I appreciate any input.

I personally wouldn't bother with a varied diet. Once my snakes are on rats I wouldn't go back. I would just move up to rats and keep the mice. You know you're going to get more snakes that will eat them :-)

I have the same issue. Different sized frozen feeders. I have been giving some of each starting with the smallest. Luckily i'm out of fuzzies! Last night medusa ate 1 small and 2 larges! lol Or you could get more snakes!:p

No more snakes for me until fall :(. Does this mean I should feel all of the mice first before making the switch to rats?

If you're into feeling mice, that's your business, my friend. :Wow::Wow: I would go through them if it were me. You could also give them to a newly found Ga. friend that is on this forum.

I would feed what you have then. I may not switch to rats, will have to see how things go. Trying xlarge mice for a while for my 3 largest snakes. I have 50 of those and have about 20 small, 50 weanlings and about that many larges left. What to do is right!

I've actually got the same problem as my carpet grows quicker than I expected, but I've got my little cali king following up ready to eat all those mice and weaner rats.
