Don't tell my other snakes. Especially George who is watching me as I type this.
But this is my favorite snake. I'd like to introduce everyone to Chingachgook.
Chinga is an 8 month old male New Jersey Pine Barrens Northern Pine snake. We got him from Sam and Megan Day. GREAT people to deal with, very great with emails, texts, and pictures. Chinga was hatched July 9, 2013 and he came home on January 14, 2014. He's been very calm ever since we got him. He is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful snakes I've ever seen. He's very curious and likes to do what my daughter calls "meerkatting" where he will arch his neck and lift his head up and sit there looking around .
Here he is :]

Very pretty snake! The pattern looks like it would be perfect camo for it's natural habitat. Thanks for sharing.

thanks everybody :]
That is a very nice-looking snake. They're captive bred but found wild in the NJ pine barrens? I have a favorite snake too, my creamsicle corn (she's my only one).

Yes, she's captive bred by an excellent breeder. Sam and Megan Day, if you ever want their contact info PM. They are amazing people to deal with.
Northern Pines are indigenous to a large area, but this particular line is descended from the NJ Pine Barrens.

Thanks Teal,
It's one of those kind of snakes that you can't wait to see what he turns out like when he gets older, his parents were amazing;
but at the same time, you're almost afraid to see what he turns out like when he gets older because he's just SO gorgeous right now I don't want him to change, LOL

I really can't lose with this one. The parents are gorgeous. If he turns out like them, I'll have a gorgeous snake. If he stays the same, I'll still have a gorgeous snake :]
But if I can get his "personality" to stay the same, I'll be happy no matter what he looks like

It's been a while since I've been on.

His hatch date is July 9th, almost a year old :]

Thank so much for the pictures! I go camping in the pine Barrens ever year to hit up some bass lakes. These guys are beautiful. I was reading an article last year about how many roads a day these snakes must cross on average and how many cars per minute those roads average. It was a study done by a local college ( I can't remember which) and they were trying to help this beautiful but declining species. They started improving numbers by making pvc tunnels under some of the roads. Hopefully these guys can regain a healthy foothold. They are beauty and interesting snakes. I am glad that your guy is so tractable and interested. You got a cool pet there.

A pit is definitely on my list of snakes to get in the future. I find their patterns and coloration to be really interesting.
