This is Petrie, my chacoan extreme tegu. He is two and a half years old and has brumated for three winters already, which is why he is not yet fully grown.

Thank you. There is certainly a connection with him that I've never experienced with another reptile.

Thanks guys! I vary his diet but on average he eats 3 adult mice and fruit every day. He is lean so far, but if he starts picking up a gut i'll cut back. He is also occasionally fed salmon, ground turkey etc.
He is certainly an interesting animal. Some days when I open his enclosure, he'll come jumping on me or trying to crawl up my leg.
He does have his cranky days though, but is never aggressive.

Beautiful animal. From the sounds of what he eats, it's got to be like trying to keep a teenager fed.

Yeah it's quite a lot, but on the flip side he goes down 6-7 months of the year without eating so it balances out. (although not all brumate)

They're awesome! I would have loved a red, but I really wanted a male, and the breeder I bought him from only had a female red left. It really doesn't make much of a difference, but maybe one day I'll get a red if I have the space, time, and money!

In the reading I've done a lot of people say their Tegu won't defecate in its enclosure rather it waits to be taken out each day or placed in the bath. This sounds very interesting that some prefer to be 'clean' and I was wondering if yours has any funny habits with regards to that or anything else? Also just out of curiosity how long did it take you to build your trusting relationship to where he will seek out your attention?
Thanks,
Brett

He does sometimes go to the bathroom when I take him out. Unfortunately the way my schedule is setup, I don't have an exact routine with him so he still goes in his enclosure.
I don't soak him often, as I don't think it's necessary if humidity is maintained. Some seem to really like it, but mine doesn't.
When I first got him he would puff up, and usually tail whip with interaction. He was over a year old, so building trust took about a month to the point where he stopped aggressive behavior. Attention seeking came much later. I also believe that the "attention seeking" is more of a food and safety association than anything else.
What a gorgeous tegu. I wish mine was friendly like everyone else's lol
Thanks. How long have you had yours? Is it an argentine or a Columbian?

I've had him for a year and a half, I think. He's much better now than he used to be. He's a CB B/W Argentine
I have strictly hands off relationship with him because I will be bitten and whipped if I even brush past his tail. He's only recently woken up from his hibernation so I'm hoping we'll make more progress this year.
Edit: Do you have any photos of your tegu's enclosure? I always love seeing how other people keep their's.
